We are pleased to announce a 2-day symposium / seminar at the Winterthur Museum, in Delaware. The event will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, August 2, 3, 2017.  Cost per person for the 2-day seminar is $90.00, payable to HSEAD, with your reservation to be made and paid no later than Saturday, July 15, 2017.  They are honored to partner with HSEAD, and likewise, it is an honor for HSEAD to have the opportunity to view the artifacts and have presentations by the Winterthur curators.

Four of our own HSEAD members will present a 2-hour demonstration to begin each of the 2-day event.  Linda Brubaker will demonstrate the art of Country Painting on Tin while Polly Bartow will demonstrate Stenciling on Tin and Wood.  The second day Dianne Freiner will demonstrate Theorem Painting on Velvet while Betsy Kreig Salm will demonstrate Women’s Painted Furniture.

Each day following the initial 2-hour demonstration period, seminars by Winterthur curators will be presented, as well as specialized tours of their Philadelphia Filley Shop’s red tinware collection, the black tinware, and many other specialized collections.  We’ll also have general tours of the museum and also the beautifully landscaped multiple acre gardens. (An agenda for the 2-day seminar is included below.)

Each person will be responsible for their own lunch in their cafeteria (which will have a reserved section for our members.   They have an extensive menu daily, from soups, beverages, salad bar, a variety of entrees and dessert bar – the food is very good.

A list of hotels is included below if you need overnight accommodations.

If you plan to stay over, an excellent place to tour in the late afternoon through evening is the nearby Longwood Gardens.  Check out the Longwood Gardens’ website www.longwoodgarden.org for purchasing timed tickets for their tours / events for early August.  While you are so close, don’t miss this opportunity, they will be opening their famed fountains that have been closed for 2 years for a multi-million dollar renovations, which opens May 27th. In the evening the garden are opened as well as the fountain light and fireworks shows.

We hope you will want to be part of this Winterthur / HSEAD partnership.
