A Quarter Century of Decorating and Teaching Country Painting – HARD COVER

“This book has been prepared for the purpose of giving the decorator of country tin painting a complete and up-to-date guide of methods of the craft. Many times during my 25 years both as a student and a teacher, I have felt the need for a handbook on country tin painting only. Partly because there are those who are interested only in this technique and not in all phases of Early American Decoration. A large book cannot be easily used at a painting table (my reason for a soft cover book). As country painting provides the basic brush stroke work for all other techniques, it is most important that anyone venturing toward other phases of decorating master country painting and all its strokes. If this book answers some of the questions which the beginning painter will ask – if it enrolls into the growing list some new collectors of early American tinware and preserves some of the early decorated pieces – I shall feel repaid. To those in search of an interest to relieve minds of present tension and teach something of our country’s past: there is no pastime, I feel, which offers more opportunity than collecting early tin ware and learning to decorate it as the early settlers did.” – Dorothy Hutchings, in the Preface.
